This communication book has been developed to provide access to vocabulary to support individuals to communicate a range of pragmatic functions, including making requests, sharing comments, and expressing their feelings.

This communication book has a cover page showing each section and 20 topic specific pages in total which include:

The same 15 core words can be found on the left hand side of each page to provide consistent access to high frequency vocabulary and reduce motor planning demands. On each page these core words are accompanied by topic specific vocabulary to support modelling and production of multi-word phrases (e.g., “I want bubbles” “help where socks” or “you stop music”).

Use the communication book as you interact to model language verbally and visually.

Assembly Instructions: Cut around the outlines of the bottom of each page to create tabs that can be used to navigate the communication book. Colour coding utilised for each page with a corresponding navigation icon on the first page. Hole punch the white space at the top of each page and tie together with metal rings or cable ties.

This communication book has been designed without full colour backgrounds to reduce printing requirements.

Please note that this communication book contains examples of common vocabulary for each topic (e.g., food, toys, places). It does not contain an extensive list of vocabulary for each topic. This communication book can be used to assess the suitability of its content and layout for individuals requiring access to AAC.
